Ecumenical body Zimbabwe Council of Churches yesterday gave Reverend Dr. Kenneth Mtata a fresh mandate  to be its General Secretary for the next five years.

In accepting the solemn responsibility, Rev Dr. Mtata shared a vision of building ecumenical leadership.

"Firstly, the Church must  embrace reality of diversity, we must learn to view diversity as a resource.

"Secondly an ecumenical church cares for the most vulnerable. We must show our commitment of serving the needy.

"Thirdly, the Church must commit to a process of holistic transformation not just superficial changes.

"And lastly, transformation is achieved collectively and this is uaually called the principle of the common good." Rev Mtata said.

He said no nation can prosper without a collective economic prosperity.

Quoting Ephesians  5 vs 17, Rev Mtata said:

"We don't have time we are in a rush. Yet there are others who are saying we have all the time. Our time is eternity so we will not give up.

"We are not giving up in ecumenism, the seed has been sown and it will germinate with time."

Rev Mtata left a job in Geneva at the Lutheran Federation to join ZCC in 2016.
