With Davison Muropa
In case you haven’t heard, the US Open Women Tennis has just been won by a Briton.
Our fashionister, Lynne once said something like “the shoe maketh a man!”
I totally agree with her. If you want to see a smart gentleman, look at his shoes.
But nowadays I see this novel phenomenon where wearing a designer suit with matennis is “trying” to get fashionable! That I don’t understand. Kupfeka suit ne tommie/tennis shoes!
And the humble tennis shoe (what mubhoyi in Rhodesia ever played tennis kkk) that 19060/70s ubiquitous fashionwear (remember matommie, mutowenyemba or matenderfoot!) has seen such an upgrade by vana Nike, Adidas, Puma, Reebok, et al that they have become a fashion statement in their own right.
And now one cannot tell which is which. Is it tennis shoes, is it sneakers, is it trainers, or is it tackies.
Take your pick I suppose all that matters now is the look, the colour, the attention attraction and which celebrity wears which.
In the UK there is the this they call the plimsoll, a canvas pump shoe, which in South Africa, they call takkies. Ungazvi dii wadziona dzakati tii paflea market. Wotongo tenga uonokwewo!
At least those in the know will tell you that whilst all these footwear are made of rubber soles and generally canvas uppers; the real tennis shoe’s humble saving glory is its special non-scuffing sole; trainers are technically purpose designed for various classes of sports whilst sneakers, once popular with matsotsi, to sneak unheard into your abode, are meant for walking stealthily.
So as your dorn that fashion footwear remember you might be non of the person, your particular footwear was meant for. Kwakutongo pfeka as a fashion statement.
Important of all, whatever shoes we put on, lets remember to put on the whole armor of Christ. (Ephesians 6 vs 10 - 18)
Till next week be blessed.
