_As you wait_
*_For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: There will always be plenty of flour and oil left in your containers until the time when the Lord sends rain and the crops grow again. So she did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her son continued to eat from her supply of flour and oil for many days._* (1 Kings 17:14-15)
Besides not asking, another mistake that we often make as we wait for our breakthrough is, withholding or ceasing to help the needy because we are also in need. My Agriculture teacher used to say, _"if you want to make money, you have to lose money."_ More money comes when you plan to use wisely the money that you have. Just as we are different, so are our levels of need and expectations. What may appear as your general helping hand to someone may actually be that person's long awaited breakthrough.
The widow was in dire need as all supplies had run dry. As it was during a drought everyone held tightly to whatever little they had. Consumption was done conservatively. In such a situation, Elijah approached the widow with his own need. As if that was not enough Elijah sounds even more commanding than compassionate, _"bake me a little loaf of bread first."_ What a confrontation of two needy situations. The secret was that God was in it.*(1 Kings 17:8)* Elijah came by God's direction. The word of God teaches us never to ignore strangers because in the process we may welcome God himself.
So you must never, in your needy condition stop doing that act of goodness within your ability. Such gestures will not go unnoticed. The widow, because she helped even in her needy situation, did not only get food for that day but she and her son survived the drought which must have killed many people. That was a breakthrough which emanated from a needy situation. *_So as you wait for your breakthrough, keep an open helping hand._* *Amen.*
