Light On Saturday

WHAT IS YOUR REQUEST?

_"Let me succeed you."_

_When they came to the other side, Elijah said to Elisha, What can I do for you before I am taken away?"_ _And Elisha replied, "Please let me become your rightful successor." "You have ask for a difficult thing, Elijah replied. "If you see me when I am taken from you, then you will get your request, But if not, then you wont." (2 Kings 2:9-10)

Succession is a challenging subject worldwide. Its discussion can turn best friends into the worst enemies. It is not always easy for those in positions of power to  choose their successors. On the other hand, it is a rare gift for a follower to admire and aspire for his masters position.

Elisha made one clear request when an opportunity came. He had walked with Elijah and was convinced that Elijah was doing the right thing. He aspired to do the same but, he could not appoint himself into the position. When opportunity knocked at his door he did not mince any words. Elijah could have been surprised by such an unexpected request.

Do you have a mentor whose shoes you will want to wear someday?

You have to follow him closely to learn all that is before you. Be there as things happen. Be a witness of your mentor's activities. A soccer or netball coach would say; _"eyes on the ball!"_

If you are to get your request, never miss any action or you will be out of action.

Amen.
