LIGHT ON TUESDAY

with Major Isaiah Motsi

(Gaborone, Botswana)

*WHAT WOULD YOU DO?*

_When you are challenged._

*_And he cursed David by the names of his gods. "Come over here, and I will give your flesh to the birds and wild animals._*

*David replied, "You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven's Armies, the God of the armies of Israel whom you have defied.'* (1 Samuel 17:44-45)

David was small in stature, and he knew that he had no chance of defeating Goliath. Goliath trusted his body size against that of David and he saw himself an obvious winner. He had enjoyed tormenting the Israelites for a long time without any one standing up to the challenge.

David was a fighter himself but little was known about his fighting. His battles began and ended at the shepherding fields, against animals of prey. David stood unmoved and reminded Goliath of his total dependence on man-made weapons while he trusted in the mighty God. David knew very well that it was only by God's help that he would fight and kill Goliath and defeat the Philistines.

In as much as you face challenges from seemingly undefeatable enemies, do not rely on your own power but  that of God. Fight not alone but in the name and power of God.  Accept the enemy's challenge but do not go alone into the battle. Let God lead while you follow. Fight with and, for God and your victory is certain.

Victory is not in your name but in the name of the Lord.

*Amen.*
