✝️The letter to the Hebrews has need not be said that this Epistle has been of much discussion amongst writers in that there is no name of the author, no time and place where it was written, the character of the book and its language does not determine to which church it was written for, so all these things have given rise to different opinions of who the author and writer of the book was.
Some Bible historians have ascribed the letter to different persons such as Barnabas, some to Apollos, others to Luke the Evangelist, and to Clement of Rome but there is no justification to their reasoning.
But the Scriptures themselves, and the language employed and persons mentioned all are associated with the Apostle Paul and his name stands in the title of it in other ancient manuscripts.
Here is what maybe the clue to opening this hidden mystery to who was the author:
The author makes mention of Timothy whom the Apostle Paul called son, co-worker, companion and even brother (Hebrews 13:23), the author makes mention of his bonds as the letter could have been written from Italy where Paul was a prisoner.
But above all the testimony of the Apostle Peter is greatly in favour of it being Paul's work( 2Peter 3:15) were it is clear that the Apostle Paul did write an letter to the Hebrews for to them the Apostle Peter wrote, "And account that the long-suffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given to him has written to you." (2 Peter 3:15)
However, in today's chapter, the author as suggested Paul makes a clear point that God used to communicate to His people by prophets but nowadays He speaks to.mankind in all different ways by His Son Jesus Christ, who created all things, whom He has given a name above all names and made an heir of all things in heaven and on earth.
That salvation is not given by means of any other person, not even to angels but only through the name of Jesus Christ
The discovery now perfected by the revelation of Jesus Christ, and that angels are only messengers and ministering spirits to those who will inherit eternal life.
1️⃣Hebrews 1:1-14: The supremacy of Jesus Christ in comparison to angels.
⏹️God spoke, God communicated His Word to His people by prophets, that these series of revelation were given to Adam as first recorded by Moses in.the book of Genesis.
The Lord said, "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel." (Genesis 3:15)
Jesus said, "For had you believed Moses, you would have believed me; for he wrote of me." (John 5:46)
⏫God employed various methods in communicating His will, at times it was by direct communication, at another by dreams, at another by visions, as long as He communicated His will to His people.
The Lord said, "Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known to him in a vision, and will speak to him in a dream" (Numbers 12:6)
⏹️But during the final dispensation in which the affairs of the world will be wound up, He sent His Only-begotten Son as the last method of communicating His desired will to His people for these and other reasons:
I.That the Son of God has spoken to mankind imposes the highest obligations as He has an authority superior to all those who have spoken in past times.
The Psalmist says, "I will declare the decree: the LORD has said to me, You are my Son; this day have I begotten you" (Psalm 2:7).
The scripture says, "God has fulfilled the same to us their children, in that he has raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, You are my Son, this day have I begotten you" (Acts 13:33)
II. That His rank and dignity is equal with God as He Himself is called God, He has a right therefore to command and when He speaks the people should obey Him.
The Apostle John says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men." (John 1:1-4)
The Apostle says, "But to the Son he said, Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your fellows." (Hebrews 1:8-9)
III.That in clearness of truth, Christ came to show the character of God and to make Him known as a merciful God as well as Just God.
The Apostle Paul says, "Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God." (Philippians 2:6)
"Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature" (Colossians 1:15)
IV.That Christ came to display the only way by which mankind may be reconcile to God as He is the Originator and Creator of all things, so the moral precepts of the Redeemer are superior to those of any and all that had gone before Him. His precepts of salvation are elevated, pure, expansive, benevolent such as He came to proclaim by offering Himself a sacrifice for sin.
The prophet Daniel looking forward to the day of Christ said, "Seventy weeks _of years_ are determined on your people and on your holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy." (Daniel 9:24)
The Apostle Paul said, "Why in all it behooved him to be made like to his brothers, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people."
(Hebrews 2:17)
V. That Christ can not be compared to angels who are ministering sports sent forth to assist the tempted and tried and that His office is higher and His name glorified above all other names in heaven and on earth, He is Lord.
The writer of Hebrews (Paul) said, "So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said to him, You are my Son, to day have I begotten you." (Hebrews 5:5)
🅰️Appeal
The superior nature of Christ is proved from his superior name as
Christ, "Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee"( (Psalm 2:7).*
The Lord God said, "I will be his Father, and he shall be my Son." (Hebrews 1:5).
This was by wonderful conception, and that His son-ship shall be the fountain and foundation of every gracious relation between God and fallen human race.
It is said of Christ, When God bringeth His First-begotten into the world, He said, let all the angels of God worship Him, that is to mean when He is brought into this lower world at His nativity, let the angels attend and honour Him and when He was brought into the world above, at His ascension to enter upon His mediatorial work and even when He shall bring Him again into the world to judge the world of sin and righteousness, then let the highest creatures worship Him.
The Apostle Paul says, "Giving thanks to the Father, which has made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him"(Colossians 1:12-16).
