✝️In this chapter, the Apostle says, We must proceed from the first principles of the doctrine of Christ to perfection and not to continue laying the foundation of repentance. For those who once received the gospel of Christ and became partakers of His grace and Holy Spirit will not be enlightened again after rebelling and apostatise from the faith and reject Him.as their Saviour, such will not be renewed again to repentance.
The Apostle calls for the confidence, diligence and perseverance
in them as he exhorts them to God's promises and which He oathed to Abraham by which the immutability of His counsels are is shown in order to excite our hope in Christ who is the anchor of the soul since He had entered within the veil as our great High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.
1️⃣Hebrews 6:1-12: A call to maturity and growth in grace and faith.
⏹️The first principle and beef foundation of faith is repentance from dead works. Dead works are works performed by one whose life is separated from the life of God.
The Apostle Paul says, "For godly sorrow works repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world works death."
(2 Corinthians 7:10)
⏭️As people repent and turn away from sin, they are to trust in doctrine of Christ's righteousness which He offers and have faith in God.
The Apostle Peter said, "Him has God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins." (Acts 5:31)
⏹️Once they turn away from God after repentance, the Holy Spirit can not plead again with them as the rain waters the earth to produce green gardens, landscapes and forests, so is does the gospel, in some it produces fruits of righteousness and in others fruits of darkness which are a result of their conduct.
The prophet Daniel said, "As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come on us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand your truth."(Daniel 9:13)
⏭️God knows those which are His, who have heard His Word for His righteousness creates interest in our service as He looks on our deeds with pleasure.
The Apostle Paul says, "And God, which knows the hearts, bore them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did to us."(Acts 15:8)
The Psalmist says, "For the LORD knows the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish."(Psalm 1:6)
⏫His righteousness creates sympathy in us in what we do by the influence of the indwelling Holy Spirit who prompts His righteousness to work within deeds of love in line with His own purpose.
The Psalmist says, "Cast me not away from your presence; and take not your Holy Spirit from me."(Psalm 51:11)
2️⃣Hebrews 6:13-20:God's unchangeable promises made to Abraham, for God cannot lie.
⏹️God made a promise to Abraham of many children, countless as the stars from all nations, kindred and tongues, those who would hear His Word and repent, work to gain the fruit of the Spirit and His righteousness which He offers by Jesus Christ.
The Lord said, "By myself have I sworn, said the LORD, for because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son: That in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is on the sea shore; and your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because you have obeyed my voice."
(Genesis 22:16-18)
⏭️When God made this promise, He swore by Himself, pledging His eternal power and Godhead for the fulfilment of the promise as there is no superior being by whom He would make this appeal, or bind His oath by except by His immutable truth and Godhead as God cannot lie.
The Scriptures say, "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: has he said, and shall he not do it? or has he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"
(Numbers 23:19).
⏹️His promise to multiply and increase the seed of Abraham was through the gospel that those who believe shall be heirs of His eternal kingdom and fulfill the promise He made to Abraham, who believed it and was counted to him for righteousness.
The Apostle Paul says, "But of him are you in Christ Jesus, who of God is made to us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption"
(1 Corinthians 1:30).
🅰️Appeal
All the promises of God are founded in His eternal counsel which is immutable, unchanging. However, the promises of blessedness which God has made to believers are not a rash and hasty thing for they are a result of His eternal purpose.
This purpose of God was agreed upon in counsel and settled there between the eternal Father, Son, and Spirit for these counsels of God can never be altered as they are immutable, as God is not a man that He should lie.
The Psalmist says, "That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments"(Psalm 78:7). Amen!!!
