✝️In this chapter the Apostle gives Titus various instructions and methods of teaching, showing him what kind of doctrines he should inculcate, and what kind of instructions he should give to the various classes of his hearers. He was, in general to speak only such things as became sound doctrine. He was to instruct aged men to be sober, dignified, and temperate behaving in a manner that befitting their time of life. That also aged women to be a proper examples to the younger women, and to exercise a proper care over them, and so they may love their husbands and family.
In the same manner, young men were to be sober - minded, not abusive and not given to wine and that Titus himself who was of the class of youth be an example to them. That servants be examples and faithful to their duty and obedient to their masters in the Lord. That God's grace which brings salvation has appeared to all mankind and its design is to make all holy who embrace it, and to teach all to live for a higher and a better world to come.
1️⃣Titus 2:1-10: Consistence in teaching sound doctrine.
⏹️It is the duty of every minister of the gospel to teach the wholesome, sound doctrine and to feed the people of God with the truth such as may bring the souls of men to health and soundness in this present and future life.
The Apostle says, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears" (2 Timothy 4:3)
⏭️Sound doctrine leads to holiness of life, to live soberly, righteously and godly lives, thus escaping the corruption of the world through lust of the flesh. Sound doctrine leads to respect older people, respect parents and honestly engage in the work of spreading the gospel to the world.
The Apostle Peter says, "Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. For so is the will of God, that with well doing you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish" (2 Peter 2:12,15)
⏹️ The doctrine of the gospel is the only measure of correcting people, it is the doctrine of Christ who became a servant Himself and showed us a good example of service and obedience.
The Apostle Peter says, "Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the fraudulent" (1 Peter 2:18).
2️⃣ Titus 2:11-15:The grace of God has brought salvation to all mankind.
⏹️The grace of God is His favor as shown to the undeserving sinful humans revealed to all classes of people, either rich or poor, slave or free, men or women so they maybe saved from the corruption of sin in the world.
The Apostle says, "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need"(Hebrews 4:16).
⏭️The gospel is the way of salvation, holiness and purity, it teaches mankind to deny ungodliness and worldly lust and paganism.
The Apostle says, "Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world." (Titus 2:12)
⏹️The gospel brings close to mankind the Cross, the means of escaping worldly desires and obtaining
justification and sanctification by the blood of the Saviour Jesus Christ.
The Apostle says, "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world" (Galatians 6:14).
🅰️Appeal
The grace of God is obliging and constraining power of goodness to stopping sin to reign in our mortal bodied. It compels mankind to yield members of their bodies to Christ.
The love of Christ constrains us not to live to self but to live for Him, the one who offers salvation from sin and wrath and from death and hell.
The Apostle says, "For the love of Christ constrains us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead" (2 Corinthians 5:14). Amen!!!
