Diaspora Discourse: Towards Greener Government- Time To Act

 DIASPORA DISCOURSE

with Davison Muropa

He came, he saw, he heard!

Our President was there for the opening of COP26 in Glasgow and when he stood on the podium, he did not disappoint.

I am inspired by his words when he says that Zimbabwe is committed to conditional 40% per capita reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

He further said comprehensive strategies are being implemented towards mainstreaming climate change adaptation and resilience across all sectors of the economy.

Big words and big ideas that probably proves government understands the climate catastrophe that coming our way if governments don’t drive the environmental agenda.

Rightfully he bemoans that the impact of climate change is disproportionately borne by the vulnerable communities which have contributed the least to greenhouse emissions over the last few centuries.

They were asleep as the first world blindly burnt coal to drive their industrial revolutions. Now everyone is paying the price.

But vulnerable countries will only be capacitated by the big boys only when they show seriousness about these things.

There has been a start and I hope there will be unrelenting follow through.

The developed world now gets it and with the push from the voices on the streets, are beginning to act in the correct manner to mitigate against this impending Armageddon.

Developing countries have to play their part and call for those billions of funds to reopen factories  whilst at the same time

modernizing and changing their economies to make them greener and more environmentally friendly.

Even China has pledged to drop funding coal energy. Vana Hwange have to put their houses in order if they are to survive the next half century.

Nature, land use and agriculture has been brought into the fray in fighting climate change.

The developing world, Africa Zimbabwe! should make a mark on this front.

Till next week, be blessed.
