Light On Wednesday: Acts Of Kindness

with Major Isaiah Motsi

(Gaborone, Botswana)

ACTS OF KINDNESS

_Where they do not come from._

_But if you are bitter, jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don't cover up the truth with boasting and lying._ (James 3:14)

Acts of kindness best come from a clear conscience and a willing heart. You can not huber _bitterness_ and, at the same time,  try to perform some acts of kindness.

Just like a hot chilli plant can not produce a sugary fruit, a bitter person  cannot produce genuine acts of kindness, impossible! Bitterness cannot produce goodness.

Acts of kindness do not come out of a _jealous_ person.

You need to be happy enough with yourself to see goodness when someone else performs some acts of kindness. You may not have  anything to give today but, have a right spirit to appreciate the good your brother has done.

Encourage, edify and pray for them. Who knows, tomorrow you may have something to give too and they will inturn appreciate you.

James mentioned another hindrance to acts of kindness:  _selfish ambition._

Centering everything on self gives rise to such statements as; "I should have been consulted", "Is that necessary?, "Why all this loss", and many more.

Judas Iscariot saw a great loss when Jesus was anointed with expensive oil by Mary. "It should have been sold and the money given to the poor."

Jesus' response was; _"Leave her alone, you will always have the poor among you. She did this in preparation for my burial" (John 12:1-7)_ Judas was covering his bitterness and jealous by lying that he would have wanted to help the less privileged. That was failure and ignorance which are not healthy for any believer. Shun the wrong and seek to do the right, the acts of kindness.

Amen.
