DAILY BIBLE STUDY EXPOSITIONS - REVELATION 20:1-14

with Elder Elico Manenji

A strong angel with keys to the bottomless pit binds Satan for a thousand years as the saints who were beheaded for the testimony of Jesus are resurrected to be with Christ for a thousand years.

This is during the first resurrection as they shall be priests of God and reign with Him for a thousand years.

When the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison and shall deceive the nations (all who died during the second coming and resurrection and shall be raised again), and Satan shall gather them at Gog and Magog from the four corners of the earth for battle with Christ and the saints.

They shall besiege  (surround) the holy city but fire shall come down from heaven and consume them and they and the devil shall be cast into a lake of fire. Death too shall be cast into the lake of fire.

The great white throne and the dead both small and great shall stand before God and all shall be judged according to their works.

No one would escape the judgment as the sea, death and hades(grave) gave up their dead to be destroyed, all whose names are not found in the book of life of the Lamb are cast into the lake of fire. That will be the end of sin, death and rebellion.

_1️⃣Revelation 20:1-7: The first resurrection and the binding of Satan_

An angel comes down from heaven with the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand and seizes Satan, the dragon, that old serpent that deceived the whole world and casts him into the bottomless pit for a thousand years.

The pit is the earth, the patriarch Job gives a clue saying, "He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light"(Job 33:28).

Satan, that great enemy of God and his saints who had fought and caused untold sufferings on earth now is made a prisoner and is restrained from any activity for a thousand years in his prison cell together with his angels, the demons.

The Revelator says, "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him" (Revelation 12:9).

During the millennium (the one thousand years), soon after the first resurrection, John sees thrones and saints sitting on them reigning with Christ.

As those who had been beheaded for the witness of Jesus and for the Word of God, those who had not worshipped the beast nor his image, were raised to be with Christ during the thousand years.

The prophet Isaiah says, "But you shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: you shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall you boast yourselves"(Isaiah 61:6).

_2️⃣Revelation 20:9-10: Satan is loosed, he deceives the raised dead to fight against God and the saints._

After the thousand years of peace and triumph of the resurrected saints, then Satan will be released from his prison as he goes to deceive the resurrected wicked  from the four corners  of the earth to gather them together to battle of Armageddon.

The Revelator says, "For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty"(Revelation 16:14).

Surrounding the Holy City that would have descended from heaven with Christ and the saints, Satan the great leader of evil,  the beast and the false prophet and all who followed their evil influence will be cast into the lake of fire.

This is the final executive judgment, as death too will be cast into the lake of fire.

The Revelator says, "And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone"(Revelation 19:20).

_3️⃣Revelation 20:11-15: The judgment and the great White Throne._

The great White Throne, the throne of holiness and purity as Christ sits on it to judge all mankind, both great and small, rich and poor, as all the dead whose names are not found in the book of life of the Lamb will be judged according to their deeds.

This judgment is the final or third judgment which the Apostle Peter says, "... in which the  heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved..." (2 Peter 3:10-11).

The second judgment is for a thousand years when.the saints sit on throne to judge with Christ as the devil and Satan is bound for the same period.

The Revelator says, "And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them..." (Revelation 20:4).

The first  judgment begins  in the house of God before the first resurrection.

The Apostle Peter says,  "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?"(1Peter 4:17).

During the final judgment, Christ the great Judge of the quick and the dead in the last day will sit on the throne of glory to execute His last holy and righteous judgment.

The Psalmist says, "Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous"(Psalm 69:28).

To show His justice and righteousness,  books were opened that show the deeds of mankind as they did not behave according to God's laws, according to a right conscience and according to what was written for their salvation in the Word of God, the holy Scriptures. Such as these will have their names not written in the Lamb's book of life.

The prophet Isaiah says, "According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompense to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompense"(Isaiah 59:18).

The book of life only contains names of the redeemed, who had heard and accepted the Word of God, who were cleansed by the blood of Christ and effectually called, justified, and sanctified by the blood of the Lamb. The rest of the world, whose names are not found in the book of life will be cast in the lake of fire were death and hell will also be cast.

The Psalmist says, "You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of your anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them"(Psalm 21:9).

 Appeal

We have a choice now, either to have our names written in the book of life or to be lost forever.

The Apostle Paul says, "See that you refuse not him that speaks. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaks from heaven"(Hebrews 12:25).

 Amen!!!
