Thursday showers of blessings come from Matthew 3:7-10 "But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee and escape from the wrath and indignation that is coming? Bring forth fruit that is consistent with repentance. And do not presume to say to yourselves, We have Abraham for our forefather; for I tell you, God is able to raise up descendants for Abraham from these stones! And already the ax is lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire."
These people were quick in responding to religious things that's why they came to John. But John was hard on them because they were not doing what was expected of them as children of GOD. Furthermore, they fooled themselves about their identity as children of Abraham. John said that, if you keep fooling yourself, know for sure that GOD is able to raise other children who will bear the expected fruit.
What these people were doing did not end with them. Even the Church today has lots of people like this, who do not do what is expected of them but fool themselves with the comfort that they belong to this so called big Church. May it be your prayer to ask GOD to enable you to bear the fruit expected of you before the LORD raises another fruitful generation or judgment comes. Thus the axe read cut down useless trees without fruit and throw into fire. Amen.
