DAILY BIBLE STUDY EXPOSITIONS - GENESIS 41:1-57

with Elder Elico Manenji

Genesis 41:1-36: Pharoah had dreams and his magicians failed to interpret them to him as Joseph is called out of prison

God speaks to all mankind despite their status or social standings but God’s ways are not as our ways. His providential administration can not measured by our own rules.

God directs His mind in the manner best fitted to serve His purpose and His people as it was not the will of God that Pharaoh should understand his own dream, nor Nebuchadnezzar understand his own dream untill it was explained by a heaven-taught interpreter.

If the meaning had been so plain that it could have been explained by the wise men of Egypt, or of Babylon, then the design for which it was sent to Pharaoh or Nebuchadnezzar would not have been gained and Joseph would have remained in prison and Daniel would have been remained an ordinary eunuch.

After two years, the chief butler now recalled Joseph to mind and.tells Pharaoh of a Hebrew lad in prison who could interpret dreams.

As Joseph is called before Pharaoh, he first acknowledges God, the one true, living, eternal God, in opposition to all false gods of Egypt.

God has appointed for every human being a time of great increase in His Word, this increase will be followed by a terrible hunger for the Word, so let every man work out his salvation with fear and trembling for God works in us to will and to do according to His good pleasure and purpose.

As the great increase of the years of plenty was quite lost and swallowed up in the years of famine and so the surplus did just to serve to keep mankind alive during the time of hunger and starvation.

The Apostle Paul says, "Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body." (1Corinthians 6:13).

Text: "For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry"(Habbakuk 2:3).*

God has set a time for the deliverance of His people from.the cares and concerns of this sinful world.

That time will definitely come, though it may seem to tarry but when it comes, it will be at the best appointed time, so we need to wait for it with patience,Joseph waited for two full years and his release was imminent.

The Apostle Peter says, "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance"(2 Peter 3:9).

Genesis 41:37-57: From prison to palace, Joseph is married and had two sons and the beginning of the years of famine._

After Joseph had interpreted Pharaoh's dreams, by wisdom,  Joseph added his own recommendation saying, _".. and let Pharaoh appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years."_

To which Pharaoh saw no other man besides Joseph, he said, _"Here is a man in whom the Spirit of God is."_ Pharaoh acknowledged that there is none so discreet and wise as Joseph.

So now Joseph was abundantly recompensed for the disgrace that had been done to him from.being sold as a slave by his brothers, to be put in prison for the lies of Photiphar's wife and now he is exalted to the second position in a foreign land.

The Psalmist says, *"And he shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your judgment as the noonday"(Psalm 37:6).*

Joseph's name is changed from "add another son to _Zaphnath-paaneah meaning revealer of secrets or treasury of the glorious rest._ Joseph is put, into an honourable office,  made him prime-minister of state and comptroller of the household of Pharaoh .

He is married and blessed with two sons, the other he called Manasseh, to mean _cause me to forget_ and the other he called Ephraim meaning  I shall be doubly fruitful.

Text: "For promotion comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he puts down one, and sets up another"(Psalm.75:6-7).

There is bread which endures to everlasting life which shall not be forgotten and which is worthy to labour for. Those that make the things of this world their good things will find but little pleasure in remembering that they have received them than when the harvest of souls for eternal glory shall take place. God has a people on earth who will maintain the Bible and Bible only as their rule of faith and mode of salvation.

Appeal

Again Joseph was type of the exaltation of Christ, that great revealer of secrets and Saviour of the world. In Christ is the power, glory, honour and majesty of heaven as Joseph became the power, glory and honour of Pharaoh. Christ is gatherer, keeper, and disposer of all the stores of divine grace and chief ruler of the kingdom of God among men. The Psalmist says,  *"O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker"(Psalm 95:6).* Amen!!!
