1️⃣Genesis 22:1-19: The sacrifice of Isaac as a test of faith for Abraham_

In testing Abraham, God was proving and trying the sincerity and strength of his faith and the universality and constancy of his obedience.

In obeying to sacrifice Isaac, his beloved son, his fear of God was unflinchingly ratified as it was God Himself who would offer His only - begotten Son Jesus Christ as the only sacrifice for sin once and for all.

The test was for Abraham to feel, test and understand how God would feel as He sacrificed Jesus for the sin of the world.

In Isaac the sacrifice God confirmed his everlasting covenant of mercy, as the Jehovah who provides Jehovah - jireh.

Abraham's response to Isaac was, _“My son, God will provide Himself a lamb”_ was the sum total of the mediatorial history and work of God's redeeming love.

For in this, the world found an altar of sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary and there our Saviour died as a perfect ransom for sin, not only for ours but for all those that believe like Isaac to sacrifice self and become children of God.

God gave a ram whose horns were caught in a thicket of thorns representing Jesus, the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world, who when He offered Himself was crowned with a crown of thorns.

Text :"By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son." (Hebrews 11:17)

Christ, the great grand sacrifice of atonement was of God's providing when none in heaven or earth could have found a lamb for that burnt-offering for God Himself found the ransom required for the acquittal and freedom of humanity.

Our only response to this blessing is the sacrifice of our hearts to God as Abraham did when he sacrificed Isaac his only son.

The Psalmist says, "The Sacrifice to God is a broken spirit; a broken and humbled heart God will not despise"(Psalm 51:17).

2️⃣Genesis 22:20-24: The family of Nahor, Abraham's brother.

The insert of this genealogy of Nahor is in preparation for the marriage of Isaac.

As the promise of the seed was given to Abraham through Sarah, so the promise was to continue in Issac through Rebecca so that the fulfilment Christ would indeed be the seed of the woman to crush the head of the serpent.

Text: "..They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed."(Romans 9:8)

Even though Abraham's family was highly dignified, was endowed with peculiar privileges and admitted into covenant with God, blessed with the promises of both inheritance and salvation,  yet he did not look with contempt or disdain upon his relations with his family members but was glad to hear of their increase and prosperity.

The Apostle Paul says, "But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons." (Galatians 4:4-5)

Appeal

Faith in God, repentance toward Him, and fellowship with Him are the three great turning - points of the soul’s returning to life again.

These are built upon the effectual call of God to mankind and are the only means of our blessing of eternal life.

These can happen to you today in an instance and you could become a child of God, wont you trust in God today?

Jesus prayed saying, "And this is life eternal, that they might know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." (John 17:3). Amen!!!
