Exodus 5:1-9: Pharaoh's blasphemous refusal to let Israel go as he increases their work._*
Moses' message to Pharaoh from God was _"Let my people go."_ This message is of deliverance, it contains the whole gospel history of our redemption.
We belong to God, we are His people, we don't belong to Satan, we are no his people, he is our taskmaster in sin and transgression. When God claims us we should remember that He claims His own, and that we are bound to support His claim by faith.
But the malice of Satan has often represented the service and worship of God as fit employment for those only that have nothing else to do whose business is of Idleness whereas it is the indispensable duty of those that are most busy in the world to come to God and praise His Holy Name.
Pharaoh's response was mean, unreasonable, he derided the God of heaven and Creator of the Universe. Ignorance and contempt of God are at the bottom of all the wickedness that are in the world as Pharaoh under the influence of Satan did. Satan said, "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also on the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High"(Isaiah 14:3-14).
Such blasphemous talk invites self-destruction, especially those who think like Pharaoh who in his heart thought he was the sovereign lord of Egypt and had no superior than him.
Text : "Therefore thus said the LORD; You have not listened to me, in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbor: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, said the LORD, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth"(Jeremiah 34:17)
We, God's people should consider what Jesus Christ has done for us and seek that liberty which God designs us all to possess. To serve God is the perfect freedom we can have and which is withheld by our taskmaster who claim our allegiance as long as we are bound in sin and wickedness.
Exodus 5:10-18: Pharaoh tells his task master to increase Israel's labour.
God's people need to "pray to be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men of this world, for all men have not faith"(2Thessalonians 3:2).
All masters who require men to do the impossible and wish them to work beyond their capabilities, beyond their physical strength or Intellectual ability and moral energy, those who require me to work beyond their opportunity, beyond their time are instruments of the devil and servants of evil and wickedness.
Text : "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him"(1John 2:15).
Overwork is inconsistent with a proper attention to the duties of active life, it is
another of satan's temptations he employs to oppose an entire devotion of the heart to God by exaggerating the importance of worldly pursuits. He reasons like Pharaoh, *“Let there be more work laid upon the men.”
Jesus said, "What shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world, if he shall lose his own soul?"(Mark 8:36).
Exodus 5:19-23: The officers of Israel blame Moses and Aaron, Moses complains to God.
⏹️When injustices increase and intensify, we often times blame others and God for it, so did the foremen of Israel, instead, they should have humbled themselves before God and taken to themselves the shame of their sinfulness and see an opportunity of their deliverance but they we blinded not to see the deliverance of God.
The instruments of deliverance are sometimes painful and need a sacrifice of the human soul, so lets be careful that disappointments in our earthly work should not drive us from our God.
Calamities that befall us are sometimes confused for God's responsibility or God’s instruments of torture in life which causes death by foolish souls. Such unreasonable charges are recorded to the shame of such brutish creatures who will meet God's justice.
Text : "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on me; because the LORD has anointed me to preach good tidings to the meek; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn"(Isaiah 61:1-2).
The Lord Jesus came to proclaim principles which if acted out would put an end to injustice and oppression. He was opposed on every hand and so will it be with all who follow in His steps. If you oppose the evil of the world, the world will oppose you. Jesus said, "If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed"(John 8:36).
Appeal
Patience is. virtue we need to learn and appreciate, don't be in a hurry with regard to results. We may seem to be doing little or nothing, and the morass is as deep as ever but God works our salvation in due time, in His appointed time, and He that comes will come. Jesus warns the impatient saying, "But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delays his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken"(Luke 12:45). Amen!!!
