Thursday showers of blessings come from Colossians 2:11-12 "In HIM you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, but by the [spiritual] circumcision of CHRIST in the stripping off of the body of the flesh [the sinful carnal nature], having been buried with HIM in baptism and raised with HIM [to a new life] through [your] faith in the working of GOD, [as displayed] when HE raised CHRIST from the dead."
JESUS came as the fulfillment of the Law. Paul emphasised that, neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but keeping the commandments of GOD. Circumcision was controversial in the early church, though the apostles clearly taught that such rituals were not necessary for Christians. Read Acts 11:1–18. Scripture is simply revealing what circumcision does physically and what faith in CHRIST does spiritually. What matters is knowing CHRIST, not physical circumcision. Circumcision was a physical ritual which is no longer required but knowing CHRIST is what matters. Christians are identified spiritually with JESUS through our faith, not circumcision. Take note of something important here: Paul connects the purpose of Old Testament circumcision with the purpose of New Testament baptism. Both serve as an external, physical symbol of the relationship between GOD and mankind. Just as CHRIST died and rose again, baptism serves as a symbol of dying to the old self and beginning a new life. After conversion every Christian must be baptised by water. Have you received CHRIST as your LORD and SAVIOUR? Are you Baptised? I pray that the HOLY SPIRIT guide you into this awesome experience. Amem.
Blessings and Shalom
