WHEN THE WESLEYANS
COMBINE FOR A MUSICAL MASTERCLASS
Dzotnet International
On a Chooseday, we get to enjoy one of great hymnals in the United Methodist Church and at the same time get to know the voices behind this track.
Tsuridzashe Gospel Singers (The Lord's Trumpets) was formed in 2003 and became popular at funerals, memorial services and gatherings.
The group, which originally is from the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, was officially launched two years later at the Harare West District Youth Convention at Waddilove Mission for the MCZ.
Their debut album, Tiri vakundi came in 2007 and for the next seven years, they went into hibernation as they perfected their art.
Simba remuchinjikwa came in 2014 but the choir still felt the Methodist music ingredient was missing.
Enter Glen View East United Methodist Church Vabvuwi and subsequently the late Simbarashe Gwatiringa..
After a sit down with a few members from the church, they agreed to infuse the styles to bring out the true definitive sound.
Gwatiringa played the fatherly figure and guide and when the album Wauya Mununuri came, they struck gold.
Both the MCZ and the UMC would identify with the sound and thanks to the mentorship and guidance of the late music supremo, the choir's music made the much needed breakthrough.
The following albums Simukirai Jesu and Ngatimukudzei Mwari sought to establish their new found rhythm.
On the last two albums, the choir picked some hymnals from the UMC namely Mweya Mutsvene Muri Mwari, Itai Mponesi Izvo Munoda and Upenyu Hwangu nemasimba.
The group now comprises of members from both the UMC and MCZ.
As they always say, when the Wesleyan children combine, they do produce something quite special.
On a ChooseDay, we celebrate a great relationship musically. We celebrate Methodism in its profound musical effect.
Tsuridzashe Gospel Singers blessing us with Hupenyu Hwangu Nemasimba.
