_"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows"_ (Matthew 10:29-31).

One reason why, as Christ's disciples, should not fear is that our powerful heavenly Father knows us, is paying attention to us, and cares about us. God knows when even a single sparrow falls, despite that sparrows seem to be of so little value. Now Christ tells His disciples not to be afraid: they are clearly more precious to God than birds are. It's more important to notice that Jesus never promises His disciples will avoid suffering, or even death, for preaching the Good News about Him to the world. In fact, they are given explicit warnings that persecution will come. Jesus' point is that the same God who notices when a sparrow dies will be paying attention to the struggles of His people. He will see, as well, when they die, and He will be ready to welcome them into eternity. 

Hardships are not a sign that God has forgotten us - they are moments to remember that He knows it all and is in control. Life sometimes feels full of danger, and we become entangled in hidden traps. We thump our fists and fight for our lives, and feel that our prayer go unheeded. We may not even know that big hands are picking us up and setting us on sure paths. God is bigger than we can imagine or understand, but He is not a far-off God. He reaches down to help us in our need. God has made a promise to us: we are in our Father's care. Fear is commonly seen among all humans. There are different types of fear every individual undergoes. But mostly, we all fear for the future, and especially when we think of our family, work and society, it creates more anxiety in us. But Christ says "Fear not." So let us not fear for our future, and for the sake of the Gospel.
