DAILY BIBLE STUDY EXPOSITION-JOSHUA 18:1-18

with Elder Elico Manenji

The allotment of the other half tribe of Manasseh as the other half received Gilead and Basham across the Jordan but although the Joseph tribes received the best part of Canaan they were still not satisfied their inheritance. They wanted more land but they did not want to work for it or fight for it.

The promise of God to Israel was to exterminate the Canaanites and occupy the land, but tje Israelites did not do as promised. It is also true to the Christian that in order to occupy eternity they must exterminate and do away with sin and not compromise their belief and faith.

The Psalmist says, "The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law; And forgot his works, and his wonders that he had showed them" (Psalm 78:9-11).

The only safe way for the Israelites to stay in the land of promise was meet the Canaanites in battle array with arms in their hands. So the Christian's only safeguard against evil company is never to enter it save on the path of gospel duty with weapons of our warfare ready in faith and prayer.

The Apostle says, "Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil...Why take to you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness" (Ephesians 6:11, 13, 14).

The Lord has blessed us with those blessings which are common to all the house of Israel. You and me who are in Christ, are partakers of all covenant blessings in Christ Jesus. If we are children, then we are heirs together with Him and as children of God, then we are heirs of all things as we are Christ’s and Christ is God’s and so all things are ours as we keep faith, hope and trust.

The Apostle says, "For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you be Christ's, then are you Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise" (Galatians 3:27-29).

Women have rights to inherit and possess the land and gifts of God as men also have rights and priviledges as seen in tje allotment of land to the daughters of Zelophehad.

The Scriptural principles require justice to women as it is still more fully required in Christianity. The spiritual privileges of the gospel are equally open to men and women as the elevation of both is most beneficial to the gospel truth.

The Scripture says, "And you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter" (Numbers 27:8).

The Apostle said, "And I entreat you also, true yoke fellow, help those women which labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow laborers, whose names are in the book of life" (Philippians 4:3).

The blessings of the Lord are on all who believe, for in Him is the promise of salvation without discrimination of gender. His blessings are for the covenanted family of God who cast their burdens on Him.

The Apostle says, "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. Casting all your care on him; for he cares for you"(1 Peter 5:6-7).

 Appeal

Everything that is of fallen nature when it is at its best is to be put under the feet of Christ that grace may reign over every form of evil. Perhaps one of the things that is worst of all to a Christian is that certain sins are supposed to be irresistible. It is a popular error and a very pernicious one for which it cuts mankind from God's grace and love. The Apostle says, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded" (James 4:7-8). Amen!!!
