International Day of Girl Child 2022 Celebrations

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD

2022 CELEBRATIONS. 11 OCTOBER

Theme: Our time is Now - Our Rights our future.

Today we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the International Day of the Girl Child (IDG). A decade has passe d with girls being celebrated annually. It is pleasing to note that there has been a remarkable increase on the attention given to issues concerning girls in communities. The involvement of governments, policy makers and the general public created opportunities for the voice of girls to be heard.  We now need to invest and take seriously the issues of girls and their rights, uniting against child marriages and all other forms of abuse. The prevalence of the COVID 19 pandemic worsened the situation, We witnessed an increase in Gender Based Violence (GBV) and sexual abuse cases and many girls dropped out of school. It is sad to note that girls living with disabilities became more vulnerable and found it difficult to access food, shelter as well as health and transport services. A CALL TO ACTION! Let us strive to:

 Create opportunities for girls to learn technical as well as leadership skills.

 Promote girl child education

 End child marriages

 Fight against all forms of abuse and seek to promote love, tolerance, equality and inclusion.

As Methodist Church In Zimbabwe it is our prayer that God restores and revive our hope and desire for a better world and future for a girl child. Psalms 85 v 6
