Isaiah 57:15-16

_[15]For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

16]For I will not contend forever, Nor will I always be angry; For the spirit would fail before Me, And the souls which I have made.

Repentance

 God consents that if he remains angry forever, people will lose heart and be lost. He therefore understands our frailty. This is why God repents from plans of destruction against us when we sin and he persuades us to come back to him. But the condition is a humble and contrite heart before God. If we come back to Him in earnest and give ourselves over to Him, He will surely forgive us and welcome us back into His fold.

Prayer

I give myself to you God and repent from all my evil ways. I bring to you a broken heart and a contrite spirit. I know you will not turn me away for your mercy endures forever.
