MOVING OUT OF THE COMFORT ZONE

Genesis 12:1 The Lord said to Abraham, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you".

Genesis 27v40 "By your sword you shall live, and you shall serve your brother; but when you grow restless, you shall break his yoke from your neck". These were the words spoken by Isaac when he was blessing Esau after the intended blessings were taken by Jacob. The interpretation of the verse is simple; Isaac was telling Esau that his life was going to change for the better only if he moves out of his comfort zone. Change was going to come by being restless.

His blessings were not going to come from a naturally established order, but from a personal deliberate effort. Esau should refuse to be rested. Many people are rested in their comfort zones.

Restlessness begins with discontentment. Discontentment produces questions. Four lepers at the gate of Samaria had to question their status quo. "Why sit here until we die?" Why are we rested?" The very question changed the course of their lives. You should be asking questions about your life. Remember if you ask wrong questions you will get wrong answers. Here is an example of a wrong question: Why are people doing this to me? The right question is: Why am I allowing people to do this to me? If you allow them, you can disallow them.

You should be asking, Why should I continue working for a low salary? Abraham had been so used to his father's house that leaving the known to the unknown must have sounded like a risk to him. Your present location may have all the resources and amenities you can ever think about, but it is far from being what God wants to take you to. Comfort has never produced stars: rather, it has killed several stars.

There is also a spiritual comfort zone, a place where you become completely satisfied with your spiritual status quo; no fresh encounters with God, no revival, no appetite to meditate, to read Scriptures worse fasting. Even prayer life should be questioned so that you do not continue to do the same thing over and over again and yet receive the same results.

Jesus Christ left the heavens (comfort zone) and came down to earth to die, the death of a servant on the cross. His death gave birth to the Christian church. Why are you rested in your comfort zone?

To God be the glory.
