_Obadiah 1:12_
_“But you should not have gazed on the day of your brother In the day of his captivity; Nor should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah In the day of their destruction; Nor should you have spoken proudly In the day of distress._
*Revenge is for the Lord*
Edom (Esau) rejoiced when the Babylonians attacked Judah and encouraged its brother's enemies to lay waste to their dwellings. Not only did they encourage, they stood by and cut off those who would have escaped. It is not our part to torment our brethren when they are in distress. When calamity falls upon our brothers and sisters, our part is not to worsen their demise.
Let us learn from Abraham. When his and Lot's shepherds quarrelled over grazing land, he told Lot that there should not be strife between them because they were relatives. The new testament encourages us to seek peace with all people because strife is a doorway to let the devil into our lives. Our hearts must be like that of Christ who blessed those who were cursing him. Our battle is also in prayer and not against people. We fight against principalities and powers in heavenly places and not against our brethren in heated arguments.
*Prayer*
Lord please remove far from me any evil intentions against my brethren. Help me to follow the example of Christ who did not retaliate against those who afflicted him. Amen.
