The Spirit Of Worship

 *THE LAMP DEVOTION*

 *THURSDAY MARCH 16*

 *THE SPIRIT OF WORSHIP*

 *John 4:19-24*

_19 The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”_

I pray you get a profound truth today from this familiar passage. After hearing Jesus for that brief moment, the woman proclaimed: “Sir, I perceive you are a prophet”. Her eyes were opened and she saw the Person who had engaged her all this while. That explains why she left her jar and ran to the city telling everyone about Jesus.

Worship begins with perception of who you are worshipping. It does not start with a musical talent or endowment, else what will happen to people who cannot sing that beautifully? The Samaritan woman realized she was in the presence of Deity.

I get concerned about people wanting to be known as Praise and Worship Leaders. If their performances are based on their great musical talent, then that cannot be the true spirit of worship. You cannot ask people to worship a God you yourself have little knowledge about. Sometimes people mimic statements made by other musicians, and the congregations also respond in certain learned ways. Let us ask God to reveal himself to us; then our worship will be in spirit and in truth.

 *Prayer*

1. Thank God you are a child of the heavenly Father who is above all.

2. Pray for a deeper revelation of God to you as you go through life.

3. Father, please open my eyes to See You, that I can truly worship You.

 *Declarations*

I declare that I am a child of the heavenly Father who is above all. Every day my eyes are being opened to know God the way I should. As my knowledge of God increases, so shall my worship of Him improve. I move away from just singing and outward gestures to the true spirit of worship, Holy Spirit being my Helper in the name of

Jesus.
