Healing Ministry Part 3

THIRD OBJECTION- HEALING MINISTRY PART 3

Objection 3 to Faith Healing: Healing is so rare. Why get people's hopes up only to disappoint them and hurt them emotionally and spiritually?

Often to declare that "healing is rare" says more about how little investigation the objector has done. I have heard people state flatly that they knew of no one who was ever healed through prayer, when I knew several in their communities whose healings were so dramatic and lasting.

Even if healings through prayer were rare, that would be a statement about what currently is and not about what is supposed to be. If healing is rare, could it be traceable to a lack of vital faith on the part of the Christian community?

As for emotional and spiritual hurt, we can encourage people without setting them up for hurt. Physicians and therapists acknowledge how important the healing process is in one's belief in the possibility of one getting better. Research shows that patients who believe in the healing power of a given prescription by the Medical Doctor, heal faster than those who are sceptical. Don't physicians encourage people, with the same possibility of emotional hurt.

How many fewer healings would take place if the physician or therapist regularly counseled a patient not to expect anything to happen? Yet how many in the Church regularly counsel people not to expect anything from prayer? Such people are sharing their own doubts and lack of experience, not the truth of Scripture. No wonder in those places healing is rare.

Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please God--".

To God be the glory.
