ZCC Spearheads Relief Programme

This week Zimbabwe Council of Churches board members Anesu Chingwaru Mironga and Reverend H Mgovo visited Gutu and Bikita districts to monitor two projects being implemented by ZCC in the two districts-the Food Assistance project and the Humanitarian Early Recovery and Development (HERD) project, both funded by The United Church of Canada in partnership with Canadian Foodgrains Bank and the Government of Canada.

They interacted with community leaders and beneficiaries who explained how the two programs are helping them to cope with the effects of drought and to improve their food security through climate-smart agriculture techniques.

A total of 7,440 food-insecure individuals in Gutu Ward 15 and 16 were reached with food assistance monthly starting in November 2022. The current round of distributions marks the end of the program, coinciding with the end of the lean season.

A total of 450 households in Gutu and Bikita districts are participating in climate-smart, resilience-focused, and gender-sensitive agriculture and livelihoods activities under the HERD program.
