Faith is no respecter of age

Genesis 17:1-8 "When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said----"

Jesus admired the ability of children to simply believe what was told to them (Matthew 18:3-4). He loved their spontaneity (Luke 18:16-17). To follow God without hesitancy or duplicity, adults must embrace the same simplicity of faith they had in early childhood. Not to be childish but to be childlike.

As adults, Abram and Sarai did just that. As they aged, they continued their pursuit of God's will; and as the promises were fulfilled, God changed their names from Abram, meaning "exalted father," to Abraham, "father of a multitude"; and from Sarai, meaning "my princess," to Sarah, "princess" (Genesis 17:5,15). A ninety-nine year- old man and an eighty-nine-year-old woman---- with the faith of little children.

Faith expands understanding. Abram first heard God's promises of real estate and children before he left Ur (Genesis 12:1-3). As Abram obediently leaves his home, God repeats the promises, adding visual confirmation: And God said to Abram, "Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are--- (Genesis 13:14-16).

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Faith is a propeller as it helps us imagine a future better than today. By Faith your tomorrow is greater than today.

To God be the glory.
