*Leviticus 17:11For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’*
In the old days, Israel offered sacrifices of animals upon the altar as sin offerings. God accepted these sacrifices but they were a temporary solution. Since blood represents life, the spilling of animal blood in sacrifices meant the giving of life to atone for that sin. Each time one sinned, they had to bring sacrifices to the altar. Now with the coming of Jesus Christ upon the earth, he gave his own life as an ultimate sacrifice for the atonement of sin, once and for all. His blood was shed to nullify all curses brought against mankind because of sin.
*Prayer*
We continue to humble ourselves in remembrance of Jesus Christ's ultimate sacrifice. Lord we applaud the shedding of your blood for the atonement of our sins, Amen.
