Zimbabwe Council of Churches Spearheads Initiative

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches participated at the recently ended ECHO East Africa/ CFGB Southern Africa Joint Symposium on Sustainable Agriculture Technologies in Malawi. The workshop which was attended by various participants around the region and beyond, including front liners in different communities, capacitated attendees on effective ways to help smallholder farmers and pastoralists in developing resilient systems towards reducing poverty and hunger.

Through this platform, the ZCC team had a great chance to share their experiences and learn from others especially on how smallholder farmers can effectively adapt farming systems with agro-ecological holistic approaches, sustainable options which generate forests, soils and water resources in the face of recurrent weather extremes.

Zimbabwe Council of Churches  is implementing the Scaling up Resilience project in two drought prone districts thus, Gutu and Bikita districts with generous support from @ The United Church of Canada  and Canadian Foodgrains Bank .  The integrated food security program among other aspects assists 1200 farmers to adapt their agriculture systems to climate change through the practice of Conservation Farming.
