Enhancing Resilience: Zimbabwe Council of Churches Trains Extension Officers in Bulilima District

Today, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) conducted a pivotal training workshop for 38 extension officers in Bulilima district, focusing on Livestock Restoration, Season Preparedness, Early Warning Signs, Water Harvesting, and Soil and Water Conservation techniques. This two-day workshop aims to bolster the knowledge of extension officers, enabling them to effectively assist communities in coping with and adapting to climate-induced shocks, particularly the ongoing El Niño drought.

As the summer farming season approaches, the training is expected to significantly enhance the preparedness and responsiveness of local farmers. This initiative is part of the recently launched Strengthening Drought Response and Recovery project, which ZCC is implementing across seven wards in Bulilima district with support from Christian Aid. The project targets a total of 575 households, striving to improve their access to food and water while enhancing their understanding of Gender and Protection issues.

By equipping extension officers with essential skills and knowledge, ZCC is taking crucial steps to ensure that communities are better prepared for the challenges posed by climate variability. The proactive measures discussed during the workshop are vital for sustaining agricultural productivity and fostering resilience in the face of environmental uncertainties.

As this initiative unfolds, it underscores the importance of community-led efforts in addressing the impacts of climate change, ensuring that vulnerable populations are supported through education and resource access. The ZCC and Christian Aid collaboration serves as a beacon of hope, aiming to empower farmers and strengthen food security in Bulilima district.
