In a bid to foster resilience and build stronger communities, Rev. Wilfred Dimingu, General Secretary of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, and Ms. Maria T. Dendere, Director of Humanitarian Services and Diakonia, visited Masvingo Province this week. They were in Gutu ward 16 and Bikita ward 31, witnessing the distribution of essential food supplies under the Food Assistance Program. This initiative, supported by The United Church of Canada in partnership with Canadian Foodgrains Bank and the Canadian Government, has been a lifeline to 12,000 participants in these communities during the lean season.
The program has not only alleviated hunger but also empowered farmers to focus on their agricultural work, knowing their families are well-supported. Through this collaboration, communities in Gutu and Bikita are becoming more resilient and self-sustaining.
