ZCC Promotes Climate Resilience Through Sustainable Agriculture

In a bid to promote sustainable agriculture and empower women farmers, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), through the Felm-funded Scaling Up Livelihoods and Resilience Program, recently conducted a transformative training in Ward 7, Zvishavane.

The training, which was part of the 16 Days of Activism, focused on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and compost making. A total of 55 women participated in the training, learning sustainable farming practices that reduce chemical use, improve soil health, and boost resilience to climate change.

The training emphasized the critical role of women in agriculture, recognizing their potential to lead sustainable development in their communities. By empowering women farmers with knowledge and skills on sustainable agriculture, the ZCC aims to enhance productivity, improve livelihoods, and promote environmental sustainability.

The use of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and compost making techniques is expected to reduce the reliance on chemical pesticides and fertilizers, which can harm the environment and human health. Instead, these sustainable practices will promote soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem services.

The ZCC's initiative is a step in the right direction towards achieving sustainable development and promoting climate resilience in Zimbabwe. By empowering women farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture practices, the organization is contributing to a more food-secure, equitable, and environmentally sustainable future.

As the world celebrates the 16 Days of Activism, the ZCC's training serves as a reminder of the critical role that women play in agriculture and sustainable development. By supporting and empowering women farmers, we can build more resilient communities and promote a sustainable future for all.
