Uniting in Prayer: Support for Los Angeles Wildfire Victims

Our hearts go out to those affected by the devastating wildfires sweeping across Los Angeles County, which have burned over 40,000 acres and claimed at least 24 lives. As Australians who have experienced similar fire disasters, we hold these communities in prayer for comfort, safety, and support.

Rev. Charissa Suli, President of the Uniting Church, offers a heartfelt prayer:

"Loving and compassionate God, we come to You with heavy hearts as we witness the devastation caused by the fires in Los Angeles. We lift before You the people, communities, and all creation affected by this tragedy.

We pray for comfort and peace for those who have lost homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. We ask for strength, wisdom, and endurance for firefighters, first responders, and volunteers. We pray for safety, support, and shelter for those displaced and living in uncertainty.

God of mercy, we pray for the healing of Your creation. May restoration and renewal come to the forests and wildlife affected. We ask for wisdom for leaders and authorities as they respond to this crisis and prepare for the future.

In moments of fear and despair, remind us of Your steadfast presence and love. Strengthen the bonds of community and inspire acts of compassion, generosity, and solidarity. May Your Spirit move among us to bring hope, healing, and peace.

Lord, we know that even in the face of destruction, You are with us. We place our trust in You, the one who creates, redeems, and sustains. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Amen."
