IN JOURNEYINGS OFTEN : A WALK THROUGH BLANTYRE
By Sinikiwe Marodza
The traveler is back! And she is saying…..Blantyre, Malawi.
A city alive with history, faith, and resilience. As I walked its streets, I couldn’t help but think of the journeys taken before me - by missionaries, believers, and seekers of truth.
One name stood out; David Livingstone, the Scottish missionary whose footsteps left a lasting impact on this land.
His mission, much like Paul’s in the Bible, was not without hardship. But isn’t that the nature of every journey of faith?
Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 11:26 about being “in journeyings often” — a life filled with movement, encounters, and challenges.
My time in Blantyre reminded me of that truth.
Travel is never just about the destination; it is about what God reveals along the way.
Faith in the Everyday
Blantyre is a city of contrasts — bustling markets next to quiet churches, modern life intertwined with deep-rooted tradition.
But the constant thread running through it all? Faith.
I sat in a small church service, listening to voices lifted in worship. There was no grand orchestra, no brass band, no flashing lights — just raw, heartfelt praise.
And in that moment, I was reminded of Psalm 22:3, which says, “But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.” God was there, moving among His people, inhabiting their worship.
The hospitality I experienced was humbling. Strangers welcomed me like family, sharing meals, stories, and laughter.
It brought to mind Hebrews 13:2 — “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
In a world that often feels divided, such simple acts of kindness remind us of the unity we have in Christ.
Lessons From the Road Journeys change us.
They open our eyes, stretch our hearts, and challenge our perspectives.
In Blantyre, I saw faith lived out in ways that made me question my own walk with God. Was I trusting Him fully? Was I content in all circumstances, as Philippians 4:11-12 teaches?
One conversation stood out. A woman, weathered by years of struggle, shared her testimony with me. She had lost much but still stood firm in her belief that “God is faithful.” Her words echoed 2 Corinthians 5:7 — “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Sometimes, faith is simply putting one foot in front of the other, trusting that God’s path is better than our own.
Where to Next?
As I left Blantyre, I carried more than just memories—I carried lessons. Lessons about faith, resilience, and the beauty of trusting God’s plan. Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.”
Journeys, whether across countries or across seasons of life, are never wasted.
God is always teaching, always shaping, always leading. The question is — are we paying attention?
So, where is God calling you to journey next?
