A devastating attack on a church in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has left 70 Christians dead, with reports indicating that the victims were beheaded.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, February 13, in the village of Mayba, Lubero territory. Suspected militants from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a group linked to the Islamic State (IS), carried out the attack.
According to eyewitnesses, the militants arrived at around 4 am, capturing 20 Christian men and women. Later, when the local community gathered to discuss a rescue plan, the ADF militants returned, capturing an additional 50 believers.
The 70 kidnapped individuals were taken to a Protestant church in Kasanga, where they were tragically killed.
Muhindo Musunzi, director of the Kombo primary school, reported that prior to the incident, churches, schools, and health centers in the area had been closed due to security concerns.
The attack highlights the deteriorating security situation in the region and the targeting of Christian communities.
