Have you ever wondered why people can be so dedicated to their work but lack the same commitment to the things of God?
Why is it that when someone is called for an interview, they show up in a neat, clean outfit, but when going to church, they appear disheveled?
Why is it easier for someone to avoid eating certain foods for cultural reasons, but they have no problem eating other things that go against their faith?
Why can someone watch a 4-hour movie without complaint, but they struggle to sit through a 1-hour sermon? They fall asleep or leave early... Why?
Why does a believer say they want to read the Bible, yet sleep takes over, but when it comes to reading a novel, they stay awake the whole time?
Why is it that when you talk to your wife for 2 minutes, it feels like the conversation is over, but when you talk to your girlfriend, you can go on for hours?
Why do we give so much attention to the outside world, but neglect our families and homes?
Why is it that people enjoy being called by their surnames, but they find it uncomfortable to be called by the name of Jesus? Why is it hard to be identified as a Christian?
Why is it so easy for men to go all out for a small house, yet when it comes to their own homes, they settle for less?
Why do believers today focus on what people will say about them, yet they rarely worry about what God thinks?
These are all questions that point to the need for grace. We need God’s grace to correct our priorities and commitment to His work. I feel a sense of compassion for those who, like me, have struggled in areas like this. When I reflect on these things, I can’t help but cry out, "Lord, have mercy!"
