In a significant step towards enhancing climate resilience and food security, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has successfully trained 57 lead farmers from Bikita's Wards 18 and 31. The training, facilitated by the Agriculture Rural Development Advisory Services (ARDAS) officers, aimed to equip lead farmers with leadership skills and practical climate-smart agriculture techniques.
The training focused on three key areas:
- Leadership and mentorship, covering leadership styles, qualities, and responsibilities of a lead farmer
- Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), featuring practical demonstrations on Conservation Agriculture (CA), including plot pegging and mulching
- Conflict resolution and group dynamics, providing lead farmers with skills to mediate disputes and foster collaboration in farmer groups
The trained lead farmers demonstrated a clear understanding of leadership principles, climate-smart farming techniques, and farmer mobilization strategies. The training highlighted the critical role lead farmers play in promoting sustainable agriculture and disaster resilience in their communities.
With their newfound skills, these lead farmers are set to transform livelihoods and promote climate-resilient agriculture in Bikita.
