The devastating war in Syria and the recent earthquakes in February 2023 left an indelible mark on the lives of sisters Salwa, Mouna, and Samira in Aleppo. Their home, already fragile, was severely damaged, leaving them to face unimaginable hardship.
Cracks marred the walls, windows were shattered, and rain poured in through a gaping hole in their kitchen ceiling. The sisters struggled to make ends meet, unable to afford even the most basic necessities. However, in the midst of despair, hope arrived in the form of Tearfund's partner, Medair.
Medair's intervention brought new life to the sisters' home, rebuilding and restoring it to its former glory. The sisters were overjoyed with the results, expressing their heartfelt gratitude for the support they received.
"We are so grateful for our repaired home," said Salwa, marveling at the brightness of the rooms, courtesy of the new windows and doors. "The fixed ceiling and new paint make it feel so comfortable."
Mouna's sentiments echoed her sister's, describing their restored home as "a palace in comparison to the home we once knew." Her voice was filled with emotion as she expressed her deep gratitude for the support that made this transformation possible.
Medair's rehabilitation project has been a resounding success, with over 190 houses and 15 common areas successfully restored. The project has brought hope and relief to countless families, including Salwa, Mouna, and Samira.
As the sisters settle into their restored home, they are reminded that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope for a brighter future.
