Transforming Lives: Tearfund's Mission to End Poverty in Uganda

By Staff Writer

In the Karamoja region of Northern Uganda, a devastating drought has left families struggling to survive. Rachael, a 25-year-old mother of three, is one such individual who has been forced to desperate measures to feed her children.

While still breastfeeding, Rachael was seen walking alone through the fields, searching for leaves to feed her young children. Her desperation was palpable as she reflected on the failed harvests due to the prolonged drought. "It has taken us now three days surviving on only drinking water and sometimes this wild plant," Rachael said, her voice laced with worry.

The drought has continued into what should be the rainy season, leaving families like Rachael's without access to basic necessities like food. Rachael's husband, Lometo, had gone to prepare their kitchen garden in the hope that the rains would return, but for now, the family is forced to rely on wild plants for sustenance.

However, there is hope. Tearfund's Transforming Communities training has already helped many families in the region become self-sufficient and overcome poverty.

With the support of donors, families like Rachael's can receive the help they need to transform their lives and build a brighter future.
