The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) continues to play a leading role in addressing humanitarian needs, recently showcasing its work during a high-level provincial monitoring visit in Bikita and Gutu Districts. The visit was part of the ongoing Scaling Up Resilience and Humanitarian Food Assistance Program, which currently supports 12,000 participants with life-saving aid.
The visit was graced by the Assistant Provincial Social Development Officer, Mr. Mapanga, along with the District Development Coordinator (DDC) and officials from the Department of Social Development (DSD). The monitoring tour provided a platform for the delegation to witness firsthand the effective delivery of humanitarian aid, made possible through support from the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and The United Church of Canada.
Mr. Mapanga took time to engage directly with community members benefiting from the programme, observing the food distribution process and personally handing over food items to some recipients. The visit emphasized the transparency of the operation, as the delegation was guided through the entire distribution model, viewed gender empowerment efforts, and evaluated ongoing livelihoods programming.
The monitoring visit also highlighted the visibility and outreach aspects of the programme, reinforcing the ZCC’s commitment to accountability and community transformation. Importantly, it demonstrated how faith-based organizations are playing a crucial role in complementing government efforts to improve food security and build resilience among vulnerable populations.
This partnership-driven approach reflects a broader vision for sustainable development, ensuring that support reaches those most in need while promoting dignity, empowerment, and long-term recovery.
