The Zimbabwean music community is in mourning following the tragic death of sungura artist Tatenda Pinjisi, who passed away in a horrific road accident over the weekend. The crash also claimed the lives of two members of his band, leaving a void in the local music scene that will not soon be filled.
Among those deeply affected is gospel singer Benny Hadassah Muzanamombe, who shared an emotional tribute reflecting on Pinjisi’s life, faith, and the inspiration he offered both personally and professionally.
“TODAY curtains have come down to mark the end of his earthly days,” Muzanamombe wrote in a heartfelt statement. “Tatenda Pinjisi haasi murume akararama asingazive kuti hupenyu hunopera.”
Muzanamombe reminisced about their first interaction, which took place on October 8, 2022. According to him, Pinjisi had reached out to commend his gospel track Vafudzi veMakwai and encouraged him to remain steadfast in his spiritual journey.
“That’s when I first heard from him, apo akandinyorera achitenda kambo VAFUDZI VEMAKWAI,” he said. “Akandikurudzira kuramba ndichiteerera kutaura kwaMweya Mutsvene pakunyora nziyo.”
He further shared a powerful memory of Pinjisi’s deep understanding of scripture and spiritual matters: “Mumazuva angu mashoma asara ndichayeuka zvaakandiudza achiti ‘moramba muchiisa Revelation ye scripture panzvimbo yayo chaipo sezvandakanzwa pana Peter apo’.”
Pinjisi was known not only for his musical talent but also for his deep-rooted faith, which evidently influenced those around him. Muzanamombe’s final words serve as a poignant farewell to a man who left a lasting impact:
“Nokuda kwenguva yawakararama, mweya yedu inokudza Mwari. RIP Brother Sir!”
Tatenda Pinjisi's legacy will continue to resonate through his music and the lives he touched during his short but meaningful journey on earth.
